GreenLeaders come in all shapes and sizes,
but are always local to Long Island.

If you know of a business or organization,
including your own, that is going green nominate them !

Long Island is made up of about 2.8 million residents and thousands of small and large businesses. While GreenStreet LI is about saving our island, one person at a time, GreenLeaders is for those businesses who recognize that the only way we really can move Long Island to a greener place is with their help.

The idea of being a green business isn’t new. Many local institutions have already started changing the way they operate to reduce their environmental impact. GreenLeaders is simply a way to recognize those efforts and share good ideas with other businesses. Whether your business has recently launched a “Cut the Car? commuting program for carpoolers, train riders and cyclists or, like Newsday, you are paying special attention to how you treat your waste water, we want to salute you!

Don’t be shy about being green; nominate your business today for an opportunity to be profiled in the paper and receive special GreenLeaders recognition.

GreenLeaders do one or all of the following:

• Have created or instituted design efficiencies

• Offer employee programs and incentives around being green

• Has implemented eco-friendly operating practices

Once a month, a GreenLeader will be featured in the paper. Leaders will be chosen by a panel of judges that includes the GreenStreet LI Advisory Board. The board is made up of the following local nonprofits that specialize in environmental action and programs.

Sustainability Institute at Molloy College

Citizens Campaign for the Environment

Sustainable Long Island

Vision Long Island

• Neighborhood Network

Renewable Energy Long Island

GreenStreet LI is sponsored by The Sustainability Institute at Molloy College which is committed to environmental education and recognizing Long Island's Green Leaders. Molloy recently furthered its commitment by opening The Sustainability Institute, a venture combining sustainability education and policy analysis.
