ClearVision Optical - GreenLeaders
2009-09-06

Long before gas prices topped $4 a gallon, employees at ClearVision Optical Company had a jump on saving gas, money and lowering harmful emissions because they were able to participate in their company-sponsored car pool program.

With grant support and technical advice from Long Island Transportation Management (LITM), the eyeglass distributor created a car pool program to motivate and reward employees that lessened their car travel to the business’ plant on Rabro Drive in Hauppauge. LITM works to improve transportation on Long Island, and the busy Hauppauge Industrial Park area where ClearVision is located was an ideal area for a car pool program.

Of ClearVision’s 135 employees, approximately 30 percent of them actively participate by car pooling at least twice a week. “Some carpool every day,” according to Brenda Litzky, Director of Vendor and Community Relations. Aside from enjoying great new friendships, employees also enjoy perks ClearVision provides, including: $50 gas cards (derived from the LITM grant), gift raffles, special breakfasts and lunches provided and choice parking in the specially designated spots the company painted and set aside for car-poolers.

This program is in keeping with a strong overall community spirit at ClearVision that has earned it numerous civic awards, including the NY Clean Air Fund’s Champion Award for 2008. When it comes to the environment, Litzky says there is a very clear motivation. “This is the way we have to move to safeguard the environment for our children and grandchildren.”

Congratulations to the June GreenLeader.
